Have you seen Equi Craft Ltd’s amazing range of bareback pads, that we’ve christened ‘Equi Pads’?
If you’re looking for a cheap saddle, a treeless saddle, a saddle for a learner rider, or a spare ‘bareback pad’, then the Equi Pad ‘Maisie’ is the saddle or comfort pad for you.
The Maisie is a super smart version, so it is actually ideal for the show ring! The Maisie Equi Pad is made exclusively for Equi Craft Ltd - it is in effect a treeless saddle - sometimes called bareback pads, these are types of saddles that are used for a variety of reasons.
Bareback pads are often designed for Shetlands and other native ponies; equines that are notoriously tricky to fit a saddle to! However, our Maisie Equi Pad is suitable for all horses and ponies, especially those with flatter backs. It is made from beautiful suede with a small padded cantle area for rider stability and security, and it has square-shaped stirrup holders for your stirrups (not included).
Excitingly, it is on SALE at 40% off - now £199.
So, why would you choose a treeless saddle like this, e.g. a bareback pad for riding your horse or pony?
Well, we have a variety of suggestions:
They’re perfect if your field is a fair distance from your yard - many horse owners turn their horses out in fields that are a short distance from the stables. It’s common to see people walking their horses in hand to and from the fields, often on the road. But wouldn’t you feel safer on board the horse or pony? A bareback pad or ‘comfort pad’ means you can pop the saddle on to go ‘to and fro’ from your field, easily carrying the lightweight pad back, or even leaving it in a secure, dry place at the field.
And if you are just doing little hacks with your horse, perhaps around your field perimeter, or from your field to another location, a bareback pad is ideal in place of a conventional saddle.
If you’re going to try a new pony for your child, it’s unlikely that if you’re an adult, you will fit in the saddle that comes with the pony. So, taking a bareback pad with you may allow you to ride and try out the pony, to ensure it’s suitable.
Bareback pads are lightweight - if you or your child has trouble carrying a conventional, heavy saddle, you will find the Equi Pad ‘Maisie’ to be very easy to carry, as it is a treeless saddle.
If your child is learning to ride, the Maisie is ideal - it allows the rider to really feel the movement of the horse or pony.
-
You can add a balance strap at the front of the Maisie Equi Pad as a rider safety aid - these are leather straps that fasten to the D rings at the front, and aid stability.
They’re not actually just for beginners, of course, as if you’re practicing sitting trot, they’re ideal to use to help deepen your seat. (Our balance strap is just £4.99.)
If your child wants to enter some showing classes, especially if they’re doing lead-rein classes, a bareback pad is perfect.Convenience is key - and the Maisie Equi Pad flattens down beautifully to keep in your car, if you don’t have a secure tack room, and are worried about keeping an expensive saddle in your car, on view!
The Maisie comes in seven sizes (15-18”), and in either black or brown suede.

I have a 16.1 Arab gelding. He doesn’t like the Arabian horse saddle. I bought for him but like being ridden bareback. Would these bareback pads be good for him ?
